Screening test for Physicians – Signs of Neuromotor Immaturity in children and adults
A simple screening tool designed to help general practitioners, paediatricians and doctors in child development units to identify children and adults who present with signs of neuromotor immaturity but who do not fit into any recognised diagnostic category. In other words, to identify patients who “fall through the net” both medically and educationally.
As there is no longer a national medical screening process in place for children at the time of school entry, or to track later neuromotor development at significant ages, many children with neuromotor immaturity present at school with educational or behavioural problems or in adult life with “secondary” neuroses. This screening tool has been specifically designed to help physicians bridge the gap between the professional domains of Medicine, Education and Psychology, to identify signs of neuromotor immaturity in children and adults, thereby enabling them to refer on to relevant agencies for further assessment and the implementation of effective developmental movement programmes.
